Sustainable Food Series
What does it take to become a locavore? Find out as you tour local
farms, cook using local ingredients, enjoy special tastings, and listen
to the stories of those who grow, catch, rear, and collect the bounty of
nature and bring it to your table.
Wednesdays, 2 -5 pm
September 14: Six Pence Garden
Truro resident Peter Burgess is growing heirloom vegetables in his
garden. Take a tour of his beautiful farm, learn about the rich history
of the land, and then use Six Pence ingredients during your cooking
lesson with chef Tony Pasquale at Truro restaurant Terra Luna.
September 21: Eldredge Farm & Great Cape Herbs
Visit Brewster's newest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project,
Eldredge Farm. Learn about their multi-faceted business, which includes
crops, livestock, forestry products, greenhouse and potted plants,
compost production, and upland and wetland habitat protection. Then
learn how to find wild, edible greens and how they are used for
medicinal purposes at the Great Cape Herbs farm.
September 28: From the Sea to Your Table
Local fisherman Jason Weisman will share his experiences in providing
fresh, local seafood - and introduce you to the newest delicacies from
the bottom of the food chain. You'll learn about the ecology of these
animals, then make a meal of them during a cooking lesson with chef Tony
Pasquale at Truro restaurant Terra Luna.
Directions will be provided upon registration.
