Protecting our Coastal Waters by Saving Natural Areas
Tuesday, March 1
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Many people are unaware of the tremendous role open space/natural [cid:image003.jpg at 01CBD435.C95531B0] areas play in reducing the amount of pollution going into our coastal bays. Brendan Annett, Vice President for Watershed Protection, The Coalition for Buzzard's Bay, and former manager and stewardship coordinator at the Waquoit Bay Reserve, will explain the values of undeveloped land and focus on how community members can play a part in helping to save land.
Mr. Annett's presentation will explain how natural areas provide many free services to Cape Codders- both ecological and economic. He'll highlight research done at the Reserve which shows the importance of undeveloped land in taking up nitrogen pollution before it hits the bay. Brendan will provide tips on what homeowners can do to help save land including permanently protecting family land with conservation easements, supporting land conservation in your town, contributing to land trusts, and leaving a portion of one's yard wild so it can more fully serve these ecosystem functions. During his time working at Waquoit Bay Reserve, Mr. Annett was responsible for many of the Reserve's recent land acquisitions. He will highlight several of these parcesl; relating how the Reserve was able to add them to its holdings and point out features community members may enjoy visiting.
Come join us the first Tuesday evening of the month to learn about actions you can do to make a positive impact for healthy bays we can ALL depend on and enjoy.
