> Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

> • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Depending upon candidate
> expertise and needs of the division, courses may include marine
> conservation biology, marine ecology, environmental policy, as well as
> an upper division course in area of expertise
> • Employ innovative teaching and learning techniques that engage
> students through the use of technology, hands-on experience, and
> problem solving
> • Include undergraduate students in research and applied science
> • Advise and mentor undergraduate students in academics, capstone
> projects, internships, and post-degree career options
> • Mentor graduate student theses
> • Play a collaborative role in integrating their science and
> policy-relevant scholarship into the on-going interdisciplinary
> research and teaching programs of CSUMB
> • Pursue and obtain external funding to support an active research
> program that builds on and makes use of CSUMB marine assets in the
> Monterey Bay region
> • Develop professional relationships with the large regional community
> of marine science institutions for which Monterey Bay is
> internationally renowned
> • Sustain scholarly research in marine science and policy leading to
> publications and professional visibility
> • Contribute to the continued development and leadership of the CSUMB

> Minimum Qualifications:
>
> • Ph.D. in conservation biology, marine science, marine ecology, or
> related field at time of hire
> • Demonstrated excellence in facilitating undergraduate learning
> • Demonstrated commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and
> graduate levels
> • Active research program with a strong record of accomplishments in
> interdisciplinary marine conservation biology
> • Demonstrated record of successful grant writing skills
> • Excellent written and oral communication skills
> • Ability and desire to mentor and teach students from diverse
> cultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds
>
> Desirable Qualifications:
>
> • A track record of applying mathematical, biotechnology (genomics,
> proteomics), stable isotope and other state of the art approaches to
> teaching and research in the area of Marine Conservation Biology
> • Ability to work collaboratively within a faculty group that has
> special expertise in applying geospatial approaches (e.g. GIS, Remote
> Sensing) to the study of marine ecosystems
> • Demonstrated ability to integrate research into undergraduate
> education and to bring undergraduate students into research
> • Experience in course and curriculum development
> • Success in securing external funding to support research, including
> undergraduate student research
> • Ability to conduct research within central California marine
> environments, and familiarity with related management and policies
