Catch Share Design Center Deputy Director
EDF*s Catch Share Design Center (CSDC) provides cutting edge tools
and information to fishery managers, fishermen, and other interested
stakeholders in order to advance the development and implementation of
catch share programs worldwide. The CSDC Deputy Director will be
responsible for developing and implementing strategies that advance
these goals both directly and through the work of the Oceans Program*s
regional teams, including those in Latin America and Europe. The CSDC
Deputy Director will also have primary responsibility for managing the
team*s operations. The CSDC Deputy Director reports to the CSDC
Director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The CSDC Deputy Director will perform the following and other duties as
assigned:
· Build alliances with a diverse array of stakeholders, and the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in particular, to
further the goals of the Center.
· Manage the work of a cadre of key consultants to achieve program
goals.
· Communicate with media, policymakers and various stakeholders to
build understanding of catch shares.
· Work with the CSDC Director to coordinate the activities of academic
scientists, policy experts, and others recruited to assist in solving
complex catch share design problems.
· Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and reports to funders
and EDF leadership.
· Take primary responsibility for day to day operations for the team.
· Coordinate closely on behalf of the Design Center team with the
National Policy Program Manager regarding project management issues,
plans, and activities.
· Enhance communications and coordination within the team and maximize
the efficiency of operational support.
· Working closely with the National Policy Program Manager, review and
update as necessary the budget and strategic planning documents and work
plans for all major program initiatives in the Design Center.
· Travel up to 30%.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following minimum
qualifications:
· Advanced degree, or equivalent professional experience, in science,
policy, economics, or law in areas related to environmental or marine
resources policy, aquatic sciences, environmental sciences or related
fields
· 5+ years of related advocacy work experience
· A strong understanding of state and federal policymaking processes
with a proven track record of building alliances and working with
policymakers
· Demonstrated analytic skills and ability to perform rigorous analysis
in support of highly visible work
· Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and a growing
program and staff
· A collaborative leadership style, with proven ability to empower and
inspire staff and encourage staff development
· Demonstrated strategic planning experience
· Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
· Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective
relationships with external partners, including government agencies,
grassroots organizations, and members of strategic coalitions
· Demonstrated negotiation skills with ability to garner consensus
between disparate groups with conflicting priorities
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following
qualifications:
· Deep knowledge of catch share programs (domestic or international)
from theory through implementation
· Understanding of the business, environmental, scientific, and other
issues related to creating and maintaining sustainable fisheries
· Experience with markets for environmental commodities other than fish
(e.g., carbon or water markets)

Compensation and Benefits
EDF offers a benefits package and competitive salary that is
commensurate with experience. Ideally, the CSDC Deputy Director will be
able to start immediately. This position will be located in San
Francisco, CA, or Washington, DC.
