The CSDC Deputy Director will be</span><br><span>responsible for developing and implementing strategies that advance</span><br><span>these goals both directly and through the work of the Oceans Program*s</span><br><span>regional teams, including those in Latin America and Europe. The CSDC</span><br><span>Deputy Director will also have primary responsibility for managing the</span><br><span>team*s operations. The CSDC Deputy Director reports to the CSDC</span><br><span>Director.</span><br><span></span><br><span>Primary Duties and Responsibilities</span><br><span>The CSDC Deputy Director will perform the following and other duties as</span><br><span>assigned:</span><br><span>· Build alliances with a diverse array of stakeholders, and the</span><br><span>National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in particular, to</span><br><span>further the goals of the Center.</span><br><span>· Manage the work of a cadre of key consultants to achieve program</span><br><span>goals.</span><br><span>· Communicate with media, policymakers and various stakeholders to</span><br><span>build understanding of catch shares.</span><br><span>· Work with the CSDC Director to coordinate the activities of academic</span><br><span>scientists, policy experts, and others recruited to assist in solving</span><br><span>complex catch share design problems.</span><br><span>· Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and reports to funders</span><br><span>and EDF leadership.</span><br><span>· Take primary responsibility for day to day operations for the team.</span><br><span>· Coordinate closely on behalf of the Design Center team with the</span><br><span>National Policy Program Manager regarding project management issues,</span><br><span>plans, and activities.</span><br><span>· Enhance communications and coordination within the team and maximize</span><br><span>the efficiency of operational support.</span><br><span>· Working closely with the National Policy Program Manager, review and</span><br><span>update as necessary the budget and strategic planning documents and work</span><br><span>plans for all major program initiatives in the Design Center.</span><br><span>· Travel up to 30%.</span><br><span></span><br><span>Qualifications</span><br><span>The successful candidate will have the following minimum</span><br><span>qualifications:</span><br><span>· Advanced degree, or equivalent professional experience, in science,</span><br><span>policy, economics, or law in areas related to environmental or marine</span><br><span>resources policy, aquatic sciences, environmental sciences or related</span><br><span>fields</span><br><span>· 5+ years of related advocacy work experience</span><br><span>· A strong understanding of state and federal policymaking processes</span><br><span>with a proven track record of building alliances and working with</span><br><span>policymakers</span><br><span>· Demonstrated analytic skills and ability to perform rigorous analysis</span><br><span>in support of highly visible work</span><br><span>· Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and a growing</span><br><span>program and staff</span><br><span>· A collaborative leadership style, with proven ability to empower and</span><br><span>inspire staff and encourage staff development</span><br><span>· Demonstrated strategic planning experience</span><br><span>· Excellent communication skills both written and verbal</span><br><span>· Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective</span><br><span>relationships with external partners, including government agencies,</span><br><span>grassroots organizations, and members of strategic coalitions</span><br><span>· Demonstrated negotiation skills with ability to garner consensus</span><br><span>between disparate groups with conflicting priorities</span><br><span>Preferred Qualifications</span><br><span>Preference will be given to candidates with the following</span><br><span>qualifications:</span><br><span>· Deep knowledge of catch share programs (domestic or international)</span><br><span>from theory through implementation</span><br><span>· Understanding of the business, environmental, scientific, and other</span><br><span>issues related to creating and maintaining sustainable fisheries</span><br><span>· Experience with markets for environmental commodities other than fish</span><br><span>(e.g., carbon or water markets)</span><br><span></span><br><span>Compensation and Benefits</span><br><span>EDF offers a benefits package and competitive salary that is</span><br><span>commensurate with experience.
