[SEMCO] Morss Colloquium on Microplastics in Woods Hole

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I am writing to let you know about an upcoming free public event dealing with plastic pollution in the oceans.

On the evening of Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 6:30 PM, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) will present a Morss Colloquium entitled:

Microplastics in the Ocean: Emergency or Exaggeration?

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Kara Lavender Law of the Sea Education Association (SEA) in Woods Hole. She will present a talk entitled: "The Science of Ocean Plastic Pollution: Laying the Foundation for Solutions”.  Her talk will be followed by a Question & Answer period and panel discussion with a distinguished international panel of scientists involved in marine microplastics research, moderated by Dr. Heather Goldstone of WCAI (see attached flyer). The colloquium will be held at Lillie Auditorium, 7 MBL Street, Woods Hole, MA and will be followed by a reception for all involved.

There will also be a live webcast for those unable to attend in person.

WHOI Morss Colloquia are made possible by a generous gift from Elisabeth W. and Henry A. Morss, Jr., which allowed the Institution to establish a fund to support public colloquia on issues of global importance that confront the human race.

The public Morss Colloquium on microplastics will be the kickoff event for an International Workshop on The Science of Microplastics in the World Ocean, which will be held October 16-18 at WHOI.
