Special Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2014
Location: Orleans Council on Aging
150 Rock Harbor Road, Orleans
Time: 4:30-7:00pm
Details: We have scheduled a Special Meeting of the Members of the Orleans Conservation
Trust for Thursday, May 29th, from 4:30 to 7:00pm at the Council on Aging in Orleans
so that we can present the revised DRAFT Declaration of Trust, answer questions
and receive input from our Members. This meeting is also in response to a Members'
request for such a meeting on this topic that the Board received last Fall. Since
then the Board has been working diligently to update the Declaration of Trust and
to update the Board's Policies & Procedures so that we have a modern, comprehensive
set of governing documents designed to meet the needs of a land trust with a broadly
diversified membership.

By clicking these links you will be able to download and print a pdf document showing
the language associated with our original and the revised draft Declaration of Trust,
and a "review guide" to help you understand the focus of each Article of the Declaration
of Trust, and the nature of the proposed changes. The "review guide" also provides
a reference to an IRS publication on "Suggested Language for Trusts" If you would
prefer, you may arrange to obtain copies of the documents by contacting the Trust
office at 508-255-0183.
We will make every effort to address all comments and questions received prior to,
during and subsequent to the Special Meeting on May 29th. All comments and questions
related to the draft Declaration of Trust will be due by June 10 so that we can
finalize the document for a Membership vote in concert with the Annual Meeting on
August 26, 2014. To ensure the accurate recording of any comments and questions,
please submit your comments and questions in writing via email as noted below, or
U.S. mail (addressed to the OCT, P.O. Box 1078, East Orleans, MA 02643), or dropped
off at our office on the mezzanine of the Santander Bank at 51 Main Street, Orleans.

Save the Date:
A Walk to Pochet Island
Date: Saturday, May 17, 2014
Location: Meet at the southern end of the Nauset Beach parking lot.
Time: 8:00-11:00am (3+ Hours)
Details: In our Fall, 2013 Newsletter, Mark Robinson, Executive Director of The
Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. wrote, "It's a long walk through
loose sand, but I had to do it." Now we want you to do it!
This will be a casual 3 + hour walk, often through loose sand, to and around Pochet
Island. Along with hearing about how and when the island was preserved, participants
will learn about the native tree and animal species that can be found on the island
and what recent land management restoration work took place. Since this is a long
walk, hikers should bring water, snacks, and dress for quick changes in the weather.
Directions: From the intersection of Rt. 28 and Main Street in Orleans, head east
on Main Street towards Nauset Beach. Follow Main Street (which turns into Beach
Road) for 3 miles. Enter the Nauset Beach parking lot and take a quick right. Go
to the far southern end of the parking lot to park. Walkers should meet at the
off-road vehicle entrance.
