"New FEMA Flood Maps, Sea-Level Rise and SANDY-type Storms: Why Should
Falmouth Care?"
Presented by Jeff Williams, Scientist Emeritus at USGS
Thursday, May 15, 7:30 PM Morse Pond School Auditorium, 323 Jones Road,
Falmouth, MA
Newly revised editions of flood-zone hazard maps have been issued by
FEMA for Falmouth and for many other communities. Compelling news
reaches us daily on the scientific evidence that the globe is warming
and that impacts such as sea-level rise, catastrophic storms and
unusually severe weather are increasing. Hurricane SANDY struck New
Jersey and New York hard. Cape Cod dodged the bullet...but for how long?
These important topics will be presented by S. Jeffress Williams, a
scientist and expert on coasts and climate change. The talk is sponsored
by Falmouth's 300 Committee and the Falmouth Water Stewards (formerly
FACES); it is free and open to the public. The venue is accessible for
those with disabilities.
