The Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program has established a <http://climate.buzzardsbay.org/index.html> Storm Smart Climate Ready
Buzzards Bay website to consolidate information, data, and assessments undertaken by the Buzzards Bay NEP and others, about the
potential impacts to Buzzards Bay and its watershed from storms, shifting shorelines, rising sea level, and changes in climate and
precipitation.
The page link is:
<http://climate.buzzardsbay.org/index.html> http://climate.buzzardsbay.org/index.html
We are providing this information, along with potential adaptation strategies, to inform and guide government officials,
researchers, local managers, and the public.
On our <http://climate.buzzardsbay.org/firm-sfha.html> Floodplain Maps page is an interactive map showing the latest FEMA 1% risk
("100-year storm") areas defined on their flood insurance rate maps (FIRMs). On our
<http://climate.buzzardsbay.org/flood-zone-expansion.html> Floodplain Expansion page you can see how this floodplain might expand
with sea level rise (1-, 2-, and 4-foot scenarios). That page also has reports we completed for each town quantifying the value of
structures within those zones.
Residents of Bourne and Falmouth will find the <http://climate.buzzardsbay.org/firm-review.html> FIRM Review Tool of interest where
changes between the old and new flood insurance maps are also displayed.
Other webpages describe our salt marsh expansion with sea level rise study, and a project beginning this fall where we are hiring a
contractor to assess vulnerabilities of stormwater, sewer, and other infrastructure in New Bedford, Acushnet, and Fairhaven.
