WHAT:            USEPA Region 1 invites you to participate in a FREE Hurricane Summit and Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) Workshop
WHEN:            Wed. June 5th, 2013;  9am-3:30pm
WHERE:           EPA's regional office in Boston, Massachusetts

During this water sector workshop, participants will discuss recent Hurricanes that have impacted the Northeast and lessons learned from these incidents, including key players in Hurricane Sandy response. The purpose is to help inform future water utility preparedness and resiliency actions and ways federal and state partners can work together with the water sector to address any remaining issues.  In the afternoon, participants will learn about the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), and how water utilities can utilize this interstate mutual aid and assistance program and how it would best work with each state's own intrastate WARN program  A discussion will take place to inform future actions to help make the water sector's use of EMAC more efficient and effective.
Attendees will include drinking water and wastewater utilities, state drinking water and wastewater agencies, local and state emergency management agencies, state EMAC coordinators, and regional federal agencies such as EPA, FEMA, and USACE.

Benefits to attending in this workshop include:

*         Participating in critical discussions to increase the resiliency of drinking water and wastewater utilities

*         Learning more about utility and state experiences with recent incidents and information future actions by utilities, states, and federal partners

*         Collaborating with individuals from response partner agencies to develop relationships before the next incident.

*         Identifying feasible next steps to implement improvements in the response capabilities of the water sector in Region 1.
