Workshop: Marine Animal Entanglement Mitigation for Subtidal Shellfish
Aquaculture

Wednesday, May 22 from 9 am - 4 pm at Hiebert Marine Lab, 5 Holway Avenue,
Provincetown.

This first half of this full-day workshop will explore marine animal
entanglement risk and regulatory agency perspectives on present and
proposed permitting and mitigation measures; the afternoon will include
brainstorming sessions and grant-writing information for those wishing to
develop innovative approaches to subtidal shellfish culture that eliminate
entanglement risk.

The workshop is free and open to all, but is particularly relevant to
prospective shellfish growers hoping to pursue subtidal shellfish
aquaculture in the new community Provincetown-Truro Aquaculture Development
Area (ADA) or elsewhere in Massachusetts waters where protected species
(e.g. whales and sea turtles) may occur.

The workshop will take place between 9 am and 4 pm at the PCCS Hiebert
Marine Lab at 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown. For more information, or to
register for the workshop, please contact Owen Nichols at 508-487-3623 x
128 or email Nichols at coastalstudies.org

Presented by Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies (PCCS), the Marine
Biological Laboratory (MBL), and the Shellfish Departments of Provincetown
and Truro, with support from the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension/Woods Hole
Sea Grant.
