Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
invites you to Meet the Caterpillars on Labor Day Weekend
Caterpillar Lab - Live Animals on Exhibit
Saturday, August 31, 12 - 4 p.m.
Come see hundreds of native caterpillars at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Naturalist/photographer and caterpillar expert Sam Jaffe will be here to show off and tell us about dozens of species including some of the LARGEST, spiniest, WACKY, WEIRD, and deceptive species you never knew were hiding in your own backyards. Cape Cod provides a rare habitat in the Northeast and many unexpected caterpillars occur here. Sam has shown the caterpillars at museums in and around Boston and now he's coming here! What to expect: Tons of open air live caterpillar displays - hands on, interactive, digital microscopes and screens - a team of caterpillar experts - caterpillar photography, and caterpillar arts and crafts. You will see some amazing and totally unexpected creatures closer and in more detail than ever before. Learn more about Sam's work with caterpillars on the caterpillar lab's facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TheCaterpillarLab , and on his website www.spjaffe.com<http://www.spjaffe.com>
Admission: Advance registration is very strongly encouraged, and tickets are available for timed entry only, every hour from noon to 3 p.m. $4 member/$6 non-member
Caterpillar Crawl
Sunday, September 1, 10 a.m. - Noon
Learn how to follow caterpillar tracks and find their secret hiding places in your backyard! Join naturalist and photographer Sam Jaffe for a slow amble through the santuary's woodland and scrub habitats in search of late season caterpillars. We might find slug caterpillars, crazy leaf-mimicking prominents, snake-mimicking swallowtail caterpillars, and potyentially huge silk and sphinx moth caterpillars. Sam's introduction will include close looks at live caterpillars.
Admission: $9 member/$11 non-member, limited space available
You may register by calling us at 508.349.2615, or by signing up online at www.massaudubon.org/wellfleetbay<http://www.massaudubon.org/wellfleetbay>
