Volunteers Needed for Waterfowl Census Dec 3 & 4

During the first week-end in December the Cape Cod Bird Club is
conducting a census of the lakes and ponds on Cape Cod for waterfowl
(grebes, loons, geese, ducks and coot). Now in its 29th year, the
Cape Cod Waterfowl Census is an excellent way for bird enthusiasts,
regardless of their expertise, to gather useful data and make a
meaningful contribution to our knowledge of the Massachusetts
avifauna. Volunteers are needed for teams covering the lakes and
ponds in Falmouth.

On Saturday, December 3rd from 9 am – noon Molly Cornell from The 300
Committee is leading a survey of ponds in West and North Falmouth.
Meet behind the West Falmouth post office to carpool. For details
please call 508-540-7652.

On Sunday, December 4th from 9 am – 3 pm Alison Robb of Nature’s
Circle will lead a survey of lakes and ponds in another section of
Falmouth. We shall start at 9 am at Woodneck Beach off Sippewissett
Road, visit 12 sites, and finish around 3 pm in Waquoit. This will be
the 12th year Nature’s Circle with the help of many volunteers has
counted waterfowl across Falmouth early in December. To sign up call
Nature's Circle, 508-564-4331, or email: nature at cape.com.

All participants should bring a lunch, binoculars, ‘scope if you have
it, a sense of adventure, and wear warm clothes. It is a great day
outdoors and you'll see ponds you never knew were there! There is
not much walking, mostly short walks and searching through spotting
‘scopes, driving between sites, and we can carpool.

For information about other survey locations on the Cape contact
Blair Nikula at 508-432-6348 or email odenews at odenews.org
