*Join us for a glass of cheer!*

The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies will host an Artists Reception
for the latest *Art in the Lab* exhibit on *Thursday, November 17th from 5
pm to 7 pm* at the Hiebert Marine Lab, 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown. This
event is free and open to all!

This exciting new show, curated by Chatham fisherwoman and photographer
Shareen Davis, features a tribute to Stellwagen Bank with work by several
artists from the Nickerson Art Gallery including biological illustrator and
fine art painter Barbara Harmon; metal artist Faye Swenson; and whale sign
makers John Proudfoot and Greg Johnson. Also on display is an antique
nautical chart of Stellwagen Bank, on loan from Maps of Antiquity of
Chatham.

*Art in the Lab* also features photography by Shareen Davis and the
Center’s own fisheries science coordinator, Owen Nichols. Their images of
the modern day weir fishing industry - accompanied by weir photographs from
the early 1900s - illustrate the collaboration between scientist and
fisherman.

One of the highlights of the exhibit is a striking and somewhat disturbing
environmental portrait of Rich Delaney, President and CEO of the
Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies. The portrait was originally
featured in the former Cape Cod Voice magazine and is part of a series of
photographs Davis is working on of Cape Codders.

*Art in the Lab* also includes work by the talented young winners of the
2011 Massachusetts Marine Educators’ Student Art Contest. The theme this
year is “Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine
Sanctuary.”

*Art in the Lab* is open weekdays 9 am – 4 pm through December. For more
information please contact Cathrine Macort at 508-487-3622 x 103, email
