<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3">The Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies will host an Artists Reception for the latest <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Art in the Lab</i> exhibit on <strong>Thursday, November 17<sup>th</sup> from 5 pm to 7 pm</strong> at the Hiebert Marine Lab, 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown. This event is free and open to all!</font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3"> </font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3">This exciting new show, curated by Chatham fisherwoman and photographer Shareen Davis, features a tribute to Stellwagen Bank with work by several artists from the Nickerson Art Gallery including biological illustrator and fine art painter Barbara Harmon; metal artist Faye Swenson; and whale sign makers John Proudfoot and Greg Johnson. Also on display is an antique nautical chart of Stellwagen Bank, on loan from Maps of Antiquity of Chatham. </font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3"> </font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><font size="3"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'">Art in the Lab</span></i><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"> also features photography by Shareen Davis and the Center’s own fisheries science coordinator, Owen Nichols. Their images of the modern day weir fishing industry - accompanied by weir photographs from the early 1900s - illustrate the collaboration between scientist and fisherman. </span></font></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3"> </font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3">One of the highlights of the exhibit is a striking and somewhat disturbing environmental portrait of Rich Delaney, President and CEO of the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>The portrait was originally featured in the former Cape Cod Voice magazine and is part of a series of photographs Davis is working on of Cape Codders. </font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"><font size="3"> </font></span></p>
<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><font size="3"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'">Art in the Lab</span></i><span style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'"> also includes work by the talented young winners of the 2011 Massachusetts Marine Educators’ Student Art Contest. The theme this year is “Amazing Ocean Creatures of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.” </span></font></p>
