Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary invites teachers
(kindergarten - grade 6) to join us for a FREE workshop!
Saturday, November 19, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Sea Turtles for Teachers Workshop
Sea turtles swim in our waters during the summer and strand on our
beaches in the winter. Join our teacher's workshop to learn how you can
leverage the natural appeal of sea turtles to enhance your science,
math, reading, and social studies curricula. We'll review multiple
lesson plans, across all disciplines, that can easily be integrated into
your curriculum, meet Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and work for
a range of grade levels. A local librarian will join us to recommend the
best children's literature on sea turtles, and we'll show you some easy
craft projects made out of household items. This course will begin with
a review of sea turtle biology, behavior, and conservation and end with
a necropsy with Sanctuary Director Bob Prescott (optional). If we have
recently rescued a sea turtle, you may get the chance to meet one!
At the conclusion of the workshop, you'll receive a letter that you may
submit for 3.5 hours of professional development
credit. You'll also take home lesson plans and templates for materials.
Coffee and pastries will be provided.
This workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Space is
limited to 20 teachers, so please register in advance.
