.
with Journalist/Author Mark Songini at 1:30.

Mark Songini will speak on the great whaling
masters of Provincetown and Marthas
Vineyard...including the Jernegans, the story of
a whaling captain who in 1868 decided to bring
his wife and children on a five-month voyage
aboard his bark, the Roman; Abraham Osborne, a
ship owner, agent and master mariner-- the
principal owner of the Ocmulgee that was captured
and destroyed by the Confederate privateer
Alabama; and George Fred Tilton of Marthas
Vineyard, who was hired in 1917 by the Monjo
company to investigate the disappearance of the
schooner. An exciting talk by a master storyteller.
Mark Songini is the author of The Lost Fleet, his
fourth book and third book on New England
history. Mark is also a Boston-area journalist
whose work has appeared in the Boston Book
Review, the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe.
