"Meet the Ocean" Lectures
**at the Environmental Education Center, Bristol, RI *

Join the Audubon Society of Rhode Island (ASRI) and the Whale and Dolphin
Conservation Society (WDCS) this winter for some fascinating talks.

*
Who Are These Creatures That Live Under The Sea?
**February 21 at 7pm
*Explore this mysterious world of tiny organisms that make up the basis for
all ocean life. Biological oceanographer Melissa Patrician will take you on
an adventure through the biological food chain to meet many strange
critters…a few familiar faces may even show up! Join us for what promises
to be an exciting, educational, and entertaining presentation of the ocean
life we never knew existed.

*Bizarre Sea Creatures
February 28 at 7pm
*Throughout the year the population of fish in Rhode Island inshore water
changes. Many of these creatures are unusual or odd. David Beutel from the
Rhode Island Sea Grant Sustainable Fisheries Program will share his personal
experience with many of the creatures from the RI marine environment.

*Sea Turtles in New England
March 6 at 7pm
*Most people don't realize that several sea turtles call New England their
summer home. Join Malia Schwartz, Rhode Island Sea Grant marine turtle
extension specialist, to learn about these fascinating creatures, the
problems they face, and what you can do to help.

*Ecology and Behavior of Baleen Whales
March 13 at 7pm
*Save the Whale! That always makes Robert Kenney, Ph.D. from the University
of RI ask "Which one?" There is more than one species—in fact; the latest
world-wide count is 15 kinds of baleen whales. Five of them occur regularly
off New England, and two others do so occasionally. Not all of them are
teetering on the brink of extinction; some are actually doing quite well.
Only one population has gone extinct since humans began keeping records, and
you might be surprised to find out where they lived.
