Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is hosting a lecture:

Basking Sharks in New England Waters
Thursday, September 4, 7 p.m.
by Carol "Krill" Carson
at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Little is known about the biology and life history of the basking shark,
a harmless plankton feeder and one of the largest fish in the world.
Scientists are trying to better understand their population size and
distribution as well as determine their local and seasonal movements and
residency patterns. This lecture will provide insight into the natural
history of basking sharks and the work of the New England Basking Shark
Project (NEBShark). NEBShark hopes to enlist the general public in
reporting sightings of basking sharks and ocean sunfish to aid
scientists in their studies.

Carol "Krill" Carson is the Outreach Educational Coordinator for Captain
John Boats in Plymouth Mass. She is also a Visiting Lecturer in the
Biology Department at Bridgewater State College and the founder and
President of the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA), a local
non-profit environmental organization located in southeastern MA. Check
out NECWA's website at http://necwa.org/ and learn about the Seabirds &
Whale Tales cruise they are hosting on September 7.

Cost for Thursday's lecture is $7 for Mass Audubon members and $9 for
non-members. Registration is requested and can be done so over the phone
by calling 508-349-2615.
