UPCOMING PRESENTATION
Freeze Frame: A Photojournalist's Journey through Four Summers in the Arctic
by Chris Linder, Photographer and Researcher, from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Saturday, January 27, 2 p.m.
at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
Join Chris Linder on a photographic journey across the Western Arctic Ocean. Through written dispatches and stunning photos, Linder documented the work of oceanographers studying climate change in this remote corner of the globe from 2002-2005. In this talk he shares the highlights from his collection of over 40,000 images of scientists in action and the otherworldly environment of the Arctic Ocean. He will also discuss an upcoming education and outreach project involving polar scientists from Woods Hole and six natural history museums across the country, taking place during the upcoming International Polar Year (2007-2008).
Chris Linder is a field photographer and research associate at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. His documentary assignments have taken him from the icy heart of the Western Arctic Ocean to the sizzling atolls of Belize. He was recently awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to document four expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic during International Polar Year. When not riding the waves, he runs a private photography business specializing in adventure, nature, and documentary photography. His stories and images have appeared in national magazines such as Outdoor Photographer and Nature Photographer, as well as galleries and museums including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. His first book, The Photographer's Guide to Cape Cod and the Islands (Countryman Press) will be published in June 2007.
The presentation will be held at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Fee is $5 for Mass Audubon members and $7 for non-members. For more information or to register contact the sanctuary at 508-349-2615 or email at mlowe at massaudubon.org
