The public is invited to a free lecture and slide show about a successful Bluebird Trail on 60 acres of preserved land owned by the Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT)
WHERE: HARWICH COMMUNITY CENTER, 100 OAK STREET
WHEN: 10 AM, SATURDAY, JANUARY 27TH
To chase the winter blues away, come learn about bluebirds and HCT's Bluebird Trail. Diane Silverstein, recent past President of the Cape Cod Bird Club and Bluebird Trail Coordinator, will explain the origins of bluebird nestbox monitoring, discuss the bluebird life cycle, and show how volunteers successfully established 38 nestboxes around HCT's 60-acre preserve in Harwich Port, known as the Bank Street Bogs. She will also explain why HCT's preserve is attractive bluebird habitat and showcase some nestboxes.
Diane also coordinated nestbox monitoring at Crowe's Pasture in Dennis and Thompson's Field in Harwich. More than a dozen fledglings each of eastern bluebird, American tree swallow, tufted titmouse and black-capped chickadee took flight from HCT's Bank Street Bluebird Trail after five months of volunteer monitoring in 2006. Enjoy the show and consider becoming a volunteer monitor in 2007!
Also see HCT's website, www.HarwichConservationTrust.org, for the 2007 Guided Walk Schedule and upcoming slide show presentations.
