Falmouth's 3rd Annual Bike/Walk to Work Day will be Wednesday, May 17th
(rain date on May 18th).
Falmouth will celebrate National Bike Week from May 13 through May 21, 2006,
and will feature a Bike/Walk to Work Day on May 17th. People are encouraged
to leave their automobiles at home and either walk or bike to work. Tables
will be set up from 7 to 9 AM at three locations:
(1) Peg Noonan Park, on Main St., Falmouth,
(2) the Trunk River Parking Lot on the Shining Sea Bikeway, and
(3) Fieldcrest Farm at the corner of Palmer Ave. and Sippewisset Rd
Food, drinks, and goodies will be provided to participants at each
location. The number of miles biked or walked will be recorded at the
tables or at http://bike2workday.tripod.com. Anyone who enters their
commuting information is eligible for a prize drawing. A special prize
drawing will be held for those who try walking or cycling to work for the
first time. Employers are also urged to compete for the most participation.
The event is organized by the Falmouth Bikeway Committee. Our goal is to
demonstrate that cycling or walking to work are viable means of transport
and benefit everyone by saving money, reducing air pollution, reducing
traffic congestion, and enhancing personal health. In each of the past two
years, Falmouth Bike/Walk to Work Day has drawn approximately 200
participants, with commuters avoiding about 2000 miles of automobile travel
by walking or cycling back and forth to work.
Sponsors of this year's event include: Falmouth Bikeways Committee, Falmouth
Selectman, Fieldcrest Farm, Bike Zone, Corner Cycle, Pie in the Sky Bakery &
Café, Windfall Market, Woods Hole Market, Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution, and more.
