On Thursday, April 28th noted ornithologist WAYNE PETERSEN will present a
lecture on CHANGES IN MASSACHUSETTS BIRD POPULATIONS at the Wellfleet Bay
Wildlife Sanctuary.

Since the arrival of the Pilgrims, Massachusetts bird populations have
undergone many changes for a variety of reasons including alteration of the
landscaope, persecution of birds for feathers and food, pesticide
contamination, competition with other species, and range expansion. This
slide presentation will discuss and describe these various phenomena within
a local context.

Wayne Petersen is employed by Swarovski Birding, prior to which he served as
Field Ornithologist for the Massachusetts Audubon Society for 15 years.
Throughout his career he has co-authored several books, led trips and tours,
lectured, and conducted birding workshops across North America. He Chairs
the Massachusetts Avian Records Committee, is a New England Regional Editor
for North American Birds magazine, and serves on the Advisory Committee for
the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program.

The program is sponsored by Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
and will be held at Wellfleet Bay's nature center in South Wellfleet. The
time of the program is 7 p.m.

Cost for the lecture is $8 for members of Mass Audubon and $10 for
non-members. Registration is required. Please call Wellfleet Bay Wildlife
Sanctuary at 508-349-2615 for more information or to register.

Thank you.
