From "Talking" Fish to the Social Lives of Dolphins:=20
8th Annual CAPE COD NATURAL HISTORY CONFERENCE
Presents Current Research
=20
Do fish vocalize? What can be learned from their sounds? What have =
researchers discovered about the social lives of dolphins based on =
stranding data? What is the status of the tern population in Nantucket =
Sound and how does it relate to the proposed wind farm? Questions like =
these will be explored at the Eighth Annual Cape Cod Natural History =
Conference on Saturday, March 15, 2003 from 9 AM to 4 PM. Sponsored by =
the Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, the conference will =
be held at the Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable, =
Massachusetts as described on the sanctuary's website at =
http://www.wellfleetbay.org/ccnhc.html.
=20
The conference will feature fifteen brief presentations by experts from =
environmental organizations, agencies, and colleges across Cape Cod and =
Massachusetts. Those presenting have deep involvement in their =
particular area of expertise concerning the identification, behavior, =
and status of Cape Cod plants, animals or natural communities. Now in =
its eighth year, the conference allows environmental organizations to =
learn about each other's research and to exchange ideas. At the same =
time, it is an opportunity for the public to learn first hand about some =
compelling subjects relating to Cape Cod's ecology, natural history, and =
conservation. =20
=20
Participants will be able to ask questions as time permits and receive a =
summary of the presentations. There will be a lunch break =
(bring-your-own) as well as two shorter breaks in the day for =
participants to interact with the speakers and to review poster =
exhibits. The cost to attend the conference is $15. The registration =
deadline is March 1. To learn more about the conference or to receive a =
brochure and registration form, contact the Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay =
Wildlife Sanctuary at 508-349-2615 or visit the sanctuary's website at =
http://www.wellfleetbay.org/ccnhc.html
