Outreach Intern
The Trustees of Reservations seeks an Outreach Intern to assist in a
public awareness campaign for the new Southeastern Massachusetts
Bioreserve, a 13,600-acre forested landscape protected by The Trustees,
the City of Fall River, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The first
of several proposed bioreserves in the state, it seeks to protect the
region’s natural and cultural resources plus the city’s drinking water
supply. The Trustees’ 500-acre reservation, Copicut Woods, will serve as
the gateway to the bioreserve and the site for a proposed visitor and
education center.
Under the supervision of the Bioreserve Project Manager, the Outreach
Intern will:
-- Assist in the development and implementation of a community outreach
program to raise awareness of the bioreserve and build enthusiasm and
support among local residents
-- Assist in planning and staffing outreach and fundraising events
-- Assist in developing and distributing publications and press releases
-- Assist in developing and scheduling presentations
-- Provide general administrative support to the Bioreserve Project
Manager as needed
Qualifications. Candidates may be either college undergraduates or
graduate students with knowledge of the environment and demonstrated
experience in communications, journalism, or public outreach. The
position requires superior writing, communications, and organization
skills, creativity, the ability to work independently, and excellent
people skills. Familiarity with Fall River and/or facility in Portuguese
a plus.
Terms. This is a full-time temporary position for the summer. Candidates
available to start part-time in April or May should so indicate in their
cover letters. The position is based in downtown Fall River, and carries
a competitive stipend in lieu of salary.
