1. Director, Ocean and Coastal Policy Program, Duke University

Durham, NC

The Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke 
University is seeking a director for its Ocean and Coastal Policy 
Program. The director will lead the program’s research and policy 
initiatives and serve on the Nicholas Institute’s senior leadership 
team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, the 
ability to collaborate with a diverse array of stakeholders, and broad 
and deep knowledge of marine issues and policy.

The Ocean and Coastal Policy Program director will plan and implement 
initiatives to provide information and research that marine decision 
makers need to craft sound policies and will engage in ongoing projects 
related to blue carbon, ocean acidification, deep sea management, and 
the training of conservation and fishery officials. The director will 
collaborate closely with Duke faculty as well as with representatives of 
other academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, industry, 
government agencies, and decision makers to find solutions to the 
challenges facing our coastal and marine environment.

2. Pacific Islands Marine Debris Assistant Regional Coordinator, NOAA/IMSG

Pacific Islands Regional Marine Debris Assistant Coordinator for the

3. Antarctic Research Facilities and Special Projects Program Manager 
(Program Director), National Science Foundation

The NSF is seeking candidate(s) for an Antarctic Research Facilities & 
Special Projects Program Manager (Program Director) within the Antarctic 
Sciences (ANT) Section, Division of Polar Programs (PLR), Directorate 
for Geosciences (GEO), Arlington VA.

ANT encompasses six core Antarctic research programs (Astrophysics and 
Geospace Sciences, Earth Sciences, Glaciology, Integrated System 
Science, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, and Organisms and Ecosystems). 
Approximately $70M in research funding is awarded annually in response 
to competitively reviewed proposals. Research projects requiring 
fieldwork in Antarctica are supported by the U.S. Antarctic Program 
(USAP) research infrastructure, managed by the Division of Antarctic 
Infrastructure & Logistics (AIL) that includes three permanent stations 
and associated laboratories, capabilities to support short- and 
long-term research at remote sites in Antarctica, two well-equipped 
research vessels, aircraft and helicopters. The annual budget for these 
support activities is approximately $270M.

4. Senior Associate, Global Shark Conservation Campaign, Pew Charitable 
Trusts

The senior associate provides program support to the project director 
and managers for the global shark conservation campaign. This campaign 
is designed as a long term effort. The position will report to the 
director, global shark conservation campaign, and is based in 
Washington, DC.

It is expected that this position is for a term period through March 31, 
2016, with the possibility of an extension pending the success of the 
program, funding sources and board decisions on continued support.

5. Sustainable Fisheries Initiative Program Assistant, Wild Salmon Center

Portland, OR

The Program Assistant is a nonexempt full-time regular position, 
eligible for organizational benefits. S/he is responsible for providing 
Russian-language program support for WSC’s Sustainable Fisheries 
Initiative (SFI). This program is using innovative market-based 
approaches to support salmon conservation and sustainable fisheries in 
the Russian Far East and across the Pacific Rim.

The ideal candidate will be independent and resourceful and will have 
real world experience working or living in Russia. Understanding the 
challenges and opportunities of working in the Russian Federation is a 
key to success in this position. The candidate should also have the 
ability to multitask, and have strong project management and Russian 
language skills.

A background in international fisheries issues such as experience 
working as a fisheries observer or within the seafood industry and 
market incentives such as third party certification will be considered a 
valuable plus.

6. Fisheries Technician 1, PACIFIC STATES MARINE FISHERIES COMMISSION

Salkum, WA

Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission is looking for a motivated, 
upbeat Fisheries Technician 1 to fill an immediate temporary position. 
PSMFC will not pay relocation or housing costs.

The successful candidate will be working on a three-person crew 
collecting juvenile salmon migrating within the Cowlitz River 
Hydroelectric Project.  Fish will be transported downstream of the 
Project to continue their seaward migration.  These fish collection 
activities support the ongoing work at Cowlitz Falls Dam, where Tacoma 
Power and Lewis County Public Utilities District are working in 
conjunction with Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission to improve 
the downstream fish collection system.  The three-person crew will 
operate and maintain several fish collectors, mainly a prototype Weir 
Box collector located at Cowlitz Falls Dam designed to improve the 
existing collector.  Captured fish will be transported to the Cowlitz 
Falls Fish Facility or Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery five to seven days per 
week, where fish will reside for one to two days before leaving the 
facility and migrating downstream.

7. Post-doc opportunity, cetacean population ecology, Nelson Mandela 
Metropolitan University

The Coastal and Marine Research Institute at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan 
University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, 
presents a diverse group of marine researchers. Cetacean research is 
fast expanding, with a number of postgraduate projects investigating the 
natural history, population dynamics and health of local populations in 
Eastern Cape waters.

At present the opportunity exists for a postdoctoral researcher with 
mark-recapture experience to join the research team to assist in 
elucidating population structure and connectivity of local delphinid 
populations. Specifically, an existing dataset is available and current 
field projects provide room for expansion and incorporation of further 
research ideas.

Prior experience in the following skills is desired: 
photo-identification, biopsy sampling, small boat research, stranding 
attendance and necropsy.
The successful candidate must be a team player, have strong 
communication skills, be reliable, self motivated, and be able to work 
independently, leading field research efforts. He or she will be 
expected to assist in generating funds through grant applications.

The post is available for 12-months, with an opportunity for extension.

8. Project and Campaign Manager, Whale and Dolphin Conservation

Planning, coordinating and implementing all programmes, projects and 
campaigns by WDC Germany to bring about an end to whale and dolphin 
captivity, including relevant scientific and public information
