5. Gulf Coast Restoration Corps Development Director, The Corps Network

The GCRC Development Director will be required to research and identify
potential partners and funders; to cultivate relationships with these
individuals, organizations, and coalitions; and to promote the GCRC
proposal. The GCRC Development Director will also be responsible for
identifying and securing commitments for coastal restoration projects

Job Summary: The Special Events and Resource Development Specialist will
work under the direction of the Development Committee to assist in the
coordination and execution of several events during our anniversary year
(2013 through 2014), including a 100-200 person black-tie gala to
several private high-net-worth donor cultivation events. In addition,
the Specialist will develop marketing strategies and tools including

years), NSF-funded postdoctoral scholar position at California State
University, Northridge (CSUN), to conduct research on the ecology of
Caribbean octocorals in St. John, US Virgin Islands. The successful
candidate will work closely with PJ Edmunds (peter.edmunds at csun.edu), HR
Lasker (PIs), and L Bramanti (collaborator) to investigate long-term
changes in octocoral communities.The research focuses on the shallow
coral reefs of St. John where 27 y of research has been conducted on the
ecology of scleractinians communities, most recently (and ongoing) with
support from the NSF-LTREB program.This new project is intended to
provide an octocoral “overlay” to the existing project and address
covariance in the community trajectories of scleractinians and
octocorals.The research is designed in three phases, first to conduct a
retrospective analysis of changes in octocoral abundance, second to
focus on contemporary reefs to test mechanisms favoring changes in
octocoral abundance relative to scleractinians, and third to focus on
changes in octocoral communities that are likely to occur over the next
20+ y.

The Belize Fisheries Department, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)
and several other NGOs have been collaborating to expand no-take, or
replenishment, zones within the country’s territorial sea. These actors
have now committed to collaborate on a national replenishment zone
expansion project for Belize aimed at meeting the combined needs of
conservation and restoration of biodiversity and fisheries, ecological
integrity and ecosystem services, and resilience to climate change,
while also benefiting the livelihoods of the Belizean people. This is
a three-year project that will finalize a national plan for no-take
expansion, establish the structure and partnerships to take the plan
forward, and organize and coordinate the activities to implement and
fulfill its objectives.
WCS is partnering with PCI Media Impact to lead development and
implementation of the communications program.
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for managing the
communications campaign component of this program and will serve as the
primary WCS and PCI Media Impact focal point for collaboration with NGO
and government agency partners in implementing the communications
campaign. S/he will support the design and implementation of a Belize
Replenishment Zones Expansion Communications and Outreach Strategy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Under the supervision of WCS with mentorship by PCI Media Impact,
support the development of a Strategic Communications and Outreach
Strategy and Plan, including an Entertainment-Education component.
· Support and work in close collaboration with WCS, PCI Media Impact,
and other partners to successfully implement the agreed campaign. This

actors, hosts and recording/editing studios.
· Ensure development of all the required material and documentation
for the radio drama, including story synopses, character profiles, final
scripts, etc.
· Work with partners in each target community to determine the need
for, and, as necessary, design and implement a Community Mobilization
Campaign.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
· Education and/or experience equivalent to an University Degree in
communications for development (C4D), international development,
journalism, Entertainment-Education, social marketing or a field
relevant to media/communications and environment.
· Strong understanding of issues impacting developing countries,
particularly around biodiversity conservation, fisheries, climate
change, natural resource management, sustainable livelihoods and
sustainable development.
· A minimum of 4 years of work experience in a communications role
for a project or organization.
· Experience using and/or organizing media relations,
web/mobile/social media, print and events.
· Experience conducting training workshops and mentoring.
· Project management, planning and report writing experience.
· Ability to work and communicate with a range of stakeholders

·Focal policy coordination person for relevant global coordination
meetings on Marine conservation in relation to Malaysian government
position i.e. CBD COP, CITES COP, etc.
·At a Regional level in relation to Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral
Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF):
·Focal point person in WWF Malaysia for coordination and collaboration
with the CTGI core team on CTI-CFF related business.
·Facilitate WWF engagement with the Malaysian government on CTI-CFF
related business
·Participate in CTI-CFF technical meetings / events when held in
Malaysia or as appropriate in other CTI-CFF countries
·Provide support to the Malaysia NCC/Govt for CTI-CFF events and
meetings in Malaysia
·Collaborate / coordinate with colleagues from CTGI and NO/POs to ensure
the key WWF messages are delivered at the meetings,
·Liaison with the Malaysia National Coordination Committee as a
mechanism for advancing WWF marine conservation and policy objectives
·Support WWF activities with the countries such as Coral Triangle Day,
CTI-CFF Regional Business Forum.
·Monitor Malaysia’s delivery on CTI-CFF commitments, especially those
that overlap with WWF Malaysia’s marine programme targets.
·Liase with Malaysia’s National Oceanographic Directorate (NOD), the
Malaysian CTI-CFF National Coordination Committee and TWGs and other
relevant government departments.
·Develop and produce position papers on relevant priority policy issues
for advocacy with relevant government departments and agencies, members
of parliament and ministers in coordination with WWF-Malaysia Head of
Policy and Sabah Office Policy Analyst.
·Assist WWF-Malaysia’s marine programme in developing policy
lobby/advocacy strategies, and planning workshops for the WWF Malaysia

Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) is now accepting
applications for the Spring 2014 Marine Conservation Internship! The
internship is designed to provide in-depth experience in marine
conservation and non-profit management. The program is geared to
college-age individuals (Juniors, Seniors, recent graduates & graduate
students). Through the internship you?ll gain experience in community
outreach/ education programs and field work including lionfish
handling/collection and fish
identification.There will also be ample opportunities to scuba dive and
volunteer with other marine conservation and non-profit
organizations.The internship is based out of Key Largo, Florida.

23. Marine Biology Intern, Reethi Rah
Maldives
One&Only Reethi Rah, a 5 star luxury resort in the Maldives, is looking
for an enthusiastic Marine Biology Intern to help assist the Resident
Marine Biologist at the resort. The position would be for 6 months
starting from 1st December 2013.
This would be suitable for recent graduates looking for that early
career experience on tropical coral reefs.
Position description:
Assist the Marine Biologist with:
?Daily snorkeling excursion with the guests
?Maintenance and upkeep of the coral reef restoration project
?Turtle nest monitoring and Turtle ID
?Conducting underwater surveys of fish and benthos
The intern will receive training in:
?Indo Pacific fish, invertebrate and coral id.
?Scientific monitoring and survey methods ? Fish Watch Surveys, bleach
watch
?Reef restoration
?Conducting presentations
?Tropical coral reef ecology
Basic Requirements:
?BSc in marine biology or related field
?Certified scuba diver with 20+ dives
?Excellent guest relation and communication skills
?A friendly outgoing personality
?The ability to live and work in a multi-national, small island
environment in the tropics
?Fluent in both spoken and written English
Preferred Requirement:
?MSc in marine biology or related field
?Rescue diver or above
?Experience in tropical coral reefs
Salary and Conditions
All meals and shared accommodation (4 share room) will be provided.
A monthly stipend of $400
50% of flight expenses on completion of the 6 contract
Free wifi and use of all staff facilities
Please be aware that there are strict grooming standards whilst working
at the resort. The successful candidate must maintain a high standard of
personal appearance and hygiene at all times. No visible piercings
(lower lobes of ears only) and no visible tattoos whilst wearing uniform
(shorts and short sleeved polo shirt).
