Director of the Virginia Coast Reserve oversees
all aspects of land protection, science,
stewardship, coastal restoration, and community
relations on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. S/he
provides scientific leadership and support for
TNC’s conservation planning activities and works
with the Virginia Director of Conservation to
establish overall conservation priorities in the
region. The Director collaborates with other TNC
staff in the fields of conservation, government
relations, marketing, philanthropy, and
operations, along with chapter leadership, and is
the principle contact with landowners,
corporations, donors, government agencies, and
local elected officials. Further, the Director
engages local community support for conservation
efforts. In particular, the Director negotiates
complex and innovative solutions with government
agencies, landowners, corporations, and partners
to conserve and protect natural communities. The
Director collaborates with other Conservancy
colleagues to plan and implement conservation
strategies across the Mid-Atlantic Seascape and
Chesapeake Bay whole system projects and works to
align VCR activities with TNC’s global and
organizational priorities. Moreover, she/he
communicates broadly, effectively, and
persuasively in both written and oral form about
solutions to complex problems. The Director
raises private and public funds to implement
conservation strategies and to support local,
state and global program operations. She/he leads
and manages a team of eight full-time staff and
additional seasonal staff, interns, and
volunteers. </span></p>

conservation and restoration of biodiversity and
fisheries, ecological integrity and ecosystem
services, and resilience to climate change,

that will finalize a national plan for no-take
expansion, establish the structure and
partnerships to take the plan forward, and

Maldives, is looking for an enthusiastic Marine
Biology Intern to help assist the Resident
Marine Biologist at the resort. The position
would be for 6 months starting from 1st December
2013.<br>

This would be suitable for recent graduates
looking for that early career experience on
tropical coral reefs.

Position description:<br>
Assist the Marine Biologist with:<br>
?<span> </span>Daily snorkeling
excursion with the guests<br>
?<span> </span>Maintenance and upkeep
of the coral reef restoration project<br>
?<span> </span>Turtle nest monitoring
and Turtle ID<br>
?<span> </span>Conducting underwater
surveys of fish and benthos<br>

The intern will receive training in:<br>
?<span> </span>Indo Pacific fish,
invertebrate and coral id. <br>
?<span> </span>Scientific monitoring
and survey methods ? Fish Watch Surveys, bleach
watch
<br>
?<span> </span>Reef restoration<br>
?<span> </span>Conducting presentations<br>
?<span> </span>Tropical coral reef
ecology<br>

Basic Requirements:<br>
?<span> </span>BSc in marine biology or
related field<br>
?<span> </span>Certified scuba diver
with 20+ dives<br>
?<span> </span>Excellent guest relation
and communication skills<br>
?<span> </span>A friendly outgoing
personality<br>
?<span> </span>The ability to live and
work in a multi-national, small island
environment in the tropics<br>
?<span> </span>Fluent in both spoken
and written English<br>

Preferred Requirement:<br>
?<span> </span>MSc in marine biology or
related field<br>
?<span> </span>Rescue diver or above<br>
?<span> </span>Experience in tropical
coral reefs<br>

Salary and Conditions<br>
All meals and shared accommodation (4 share
room) will be provided.<br>
A monthly stipend of $400<br>
50% of flight expenses on completion of the 6
contract <br>
Free wifi and use of all staff facilities<br>
<br>
Please be aware that there are strict grooming
standards whilst working at the resort. The
successful candidate must maintain a high
standard of personal appearance and hygiene at
all times. No visible piercings (lower lobes of
ears only) and no visible tattoos whilst wearing
uniform (shorts and short sleeved polo shirt).<br>
