9. Coast and Ocean Partnership Coordinator, The Nature Conservancy

The Ocean Planning Specialist will work with the North Carolina, South 
Carolina, Georgia and Florida chapters in the implementation of regional 
coastal and marine conservation strategies. Initial emphasis will be on 
launching a Georgia ocean planning pilot project. Working with state and 
federal agencies, university and local partners, the ocean planning 
specialist will take the lead in conducting a stakeholder outreach 
initiative. Activities will include identification and communication 
with individuals and organizations interested in the future use of 
Georgia’s coastal and ocean waters, organization of interactive meetings 
and workshops to discuss vision and identify use areas, and coordination 
with ongoing spatial mapping efforts. S/he will also work closely with 
an internal team of Nature Conservancy staff to communicate and share 
the results of the pilot project for consideration in other parts of the 
South Atlantic Region.

In addition to leadership of the state-based ocean planning efforts, the 
Ocean Planning Specialist will be a core member of a regional team 
working around four priority conservation strategies – coral and oyster 
reef conservation, coastal vulnerability, ocean planning and sustainable 
fisheries. As part of this team, s/he will support development of the 
annual work plan; management of the program budget, including the 
identification of new source of public and private funds; and creation 
and dissemination of communication materials. In addition, s/he may take 
on responsibilities related to other conservation strategies that 
correspond with ocean planning activities (e.g. sustainable fisheries).

11. Marine Programme Manager, Myanmar, Fauna & Flora International

The Marine Programme Manager will be directly responsible for managing 
and reporting on nearly USD 700,000 of donor funds for interventions in 
the Myeik archipelago, southern Tanintharyi Region and the Meinmahla 
Kyun Wildlife Sanctuary. The project involves multiple interventions, 
which the post-holder and a small core team of technical staff will 
design and implement, with short-term inputs from additional FFI and 
external technical advisers; in particular, broad scale assessments of 
the current state of the coastal and marine environment of Myanmar, 
interaction and collaboration with coastal communities and feasibility 
assessment, and subsequent establishment of LMMAs in the Myeik 
archipelago. Lastly, the post-holder will support the Country Director 
with project and programme development and overall country programme 
management.

12. Ecological Management Technician, Little St. Simons Island

The primary responsibilities will focus on field work, data collection, 
data management, and coordinating various management and research 
projects. Candidates must have some knowledge of biological data 
collection techniques and experience with computer databases. Candidates 
need to be in excellent physical condition. The selected applicant will 
coordinate and work with volunteers, respond to and document stranded 
sea turtles and marine mammals, monitor for and remove invasive species, 
trap and remove predators around nesting shorebirds, seabirds, and sea

15. Mid-Atlantic Ocean Recreation Outreach Coordinator, Surfrider

The Surfrider Foundation seeks a Mid-Atlantic Ocean Recreation Outreach 
Coordinator to support stakeholder engagement in regional ocean planning 
in the Mid-Atlantic (NY to VA). The position’s main responsibility is to 
identify, communicate with, and engage recreational interests throughout 
the Mid-Atlantic in the ocean planning process of the Mid-Atlantic 
Regional Planning Body (RPB). The intern will work under the direction 
of Matt Gove (Mid-Atlantic Policy Coordinator) and Pete Stauffer (Ocean 
Program Manager) and require 5-10 hours per week for 6-12 months.

16. Water Quality Outreach Assistant, Galveston Bay Foundation

The Water Quality Outreach Assistant works directly with the Water 
Quality Program Manager in implementing outreach programs and 
contributing innovative ideas to expand these programs. Programs 
include, but are not limited to, GBF’s Clean Water Partnerships, Boater 
Waste Education Campaign, and Cease the Grease Campaign. As part of the 
Advocacy Team, this position focuses on creating citizen advocates and 
providing practical tools and information to the community to keep 
Galveston Bay fishable and swimmable.

17. Georgia Sea Grant Marine Education Internships, University of Georgia

Savannah, GA

Sea Grant Marine Education internships are designed for recent college 
graduates with a B.S. in Biology who would like some teaching experience 
in marine science and coastal ecology. The internships provide a 
transitional period between college and permanent professional positions 
or graduate work. Interns live on site for 50 weeks in studio apartments 
provided by the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium. Meals are 
available without charge in the cafeteria whenever visiting groups are 
on campus.

The internship includes a variety of teaching opportunities: in the salt 
marsh and maritime forest, on the beaches of developed and pristine 
barrier islands of Tybee and Wassaw, on research vessels, and in well 
equipped plankton, fish, and invertebrate labs. Interns begin to teach 
after a 6-8 week training period. They are also responsible for 
maintaining touch tank animals, working in the aquarium 1-2 Saturdays a 
month, and assisting staff in other areas of operation where necessary. 
During the winter months, each intern also completes an education project.

including developing the coral nursery, monitoring the reef health of 
the island, identifying our resident manta populations for the Manta 
Trust and develop a biodiversity index on the Maldivian reefs.

research to local schools and visiting tourists. The cost, including
