Sorry for the late notice. There will be a Friday afternoon SOB *today*
at Woods Hole Research Center. It was previously scheduled last week but
cancelled due to snow.

We have Friday afternoon seminars that our scientists give regarding the
work they are doing. They are called “SOB seminars,” and the SOB stands
for Science over a beer (or beverage). The beverage/beer is provided.
This Friday Jonathan Sanderman will present: ‘Pyrogenic carbon in soils
- why we care, why it is a pain to measure and how we can make better
low cost measurements.’ MBL post-docs, research associates and other
interested folks are most welcome.

Would you please send this invitation to your email list? The talk will
be in the basement auditorium of the Woodwell Building at 4:00 pm.

Let me know if you have any questions. I have posted information on
Jonathan below.

Best,
Wendy

      Jonathan Sanderman, Ph.D.

ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST

Expertise Carbon sink capacity, soil carbon and nutrient cycles,
land-use and climate change

Dr. Sanderman is a biogeochemist who specializes in understanding how
soil carbon and nutrient cycles have been altered by land-use and
climate change. He is particularly interested in understanding the
carbon sink capacity of soils and coastal sediments and whether or not
these sinks can be managed to mitigate climate change. Prior to joining
the Center, Dr. Sanderman spent six years as a research scientist at the
Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization
focusing on soil carbon sequestration in agricultural soils. Dr.
Sanderman holds a B.S. from Brown University and a Ph.D. from the
University of California, Berkeley.
