                scientists give regarding the work they are doing. They
                are called “SOB seminars,” and the SOB stands for
                Science over a beer (or beverage). The beverage/beer is
                provided. This Friday Jonathan Sanderman will present:
                 ‘Pyrogenic carbon in soils - why we care, why it is a
                pain to measure and how we can make better low cost
                measurements.’ MBL post-docs, research associates and
                other interested folks are most welcome.</div>

                  Sanderman is a biogeochemist who specializes in
                  understanding how soil carbon and nutrient cycles have
                  been altered by land-use and climate change. He is
                  particularly interested in understanding the carbon
                  sink capacity of soils and coastal sediments and
                  whether or not these sinks can be managed to mitigate
                  climate change. Prior to joining the Center, Dr.
                  Sanderman spent six years as a research scientist at
                  the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
                  Research Organization focusing on soil carbon
                  sequestration in agricultural soils. Dr. Sanderman
                  holds a B.S. from Brown University and a Ph.D. from
                  the University of California, Berkeley.</p>
