SoundHAB: FW: Red brown bloom in Case Inlet

On our return flight over South Sound (EOPS, Ecology) we could see that the red-brown bloom in Case inlet (does not look like Noctiluca) is far more extensive than assumed from our previous message.

The bloom extends all the way to Nisqually Reach. See pictures taken yesterday afternoon at around 3:45PM over Case Inlet.

It also appears that two blooms are occurring. One potential bloom in the color of turquoise east of Heron Island (but I am not 100% sure if it could be an optical effect from a light ray penetrating a broken cloud cover).

Tides are fairly slack today in Case Inlet that may contribute to what is being seen.  Tidal amplitude change increases some then decreases nearer the end of the month and again a day or two after the 4th of July (when summer usually starts around here!)



Megan Black reported that she has contacts in upper Case Inlet and that the wind increased earlier this afternoon.  That could impact what Christopher might see from the air.
