APCC Pond Monitoring Technician



The Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) seeks a Pond Monitoring Technician to conduct pond water quality monitoring as part of APCC’s new Pond Monitoring Program funded by the Freshwater Initiative.



APCC is a 501(c)(3) environmental organization founded in 1968 to promote policies and programs that foster preservation of Cape Cod’s natural resources. Our monitoring programs are designed to provide science-based information to inform outreach, policies, and actions to achieve these goals.


Responsibilities: The Pond Monitoring Program will entail monitoring water quality in 50 ponds at monthly intervals from April through October for three years. The Pond Monitoring Technician will be one of two technicians who will conduct pond monitoring and sampling of water for temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, water clarity, conductivity/salinity, and lab analysis of nutrients. Together with the Senior Water Quality technician, the Pond Monitoring Technician will organize logistics, mobilization, and demobilization, work with partners and contractors; conduct data management and data analysis; and assist in preparation of reports. The candidate must have their own vehicle and driver's license as work often involves traveling to and from sampling locations (mileage to and from APCC will be covered).
Minimum Requirements. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., water resources, hydrology, limnology, natural resource management, environmental microbiology, etc.) and one to 3 years of experience.

Required Experience and Skills:

  *   Field monitoring of water quality, cyanobacteria, or other water-related resources;
  *   Safe handling and use of small boats (e.g., canoe, rowboat) on ponds;
  *   Computer skills and experience with Office 365, Microsoft Excel, and Word;
  *   Data management and data analysis using Excel;
  *   Preparation of reports;
  *   Excellent communication skills (verbal, written);
  *
Ability to work in a timely manner to meet schedules.

The Pond Monitoring Technician will report to the Project Manager for Pond and Cyanobacteria Monitoring and will work with the APCC Project Team (i.e., Executive Director, Director of Science Programs, and the Director of Outreach and Education). Work with other staff may occur as directed.

This is a salaried full-time, half-year position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
