APCC Project Manager for Pond and Cyanobacteria Monitoring


The Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) seeks an experienced project manager to manage two APCC monitoring programs: the Cyanobacteria Monitoring Program and a new Pond Monitoring Project funded by the Freshwater Initiative.



APCC is a 501(c)(3) environmental organization founded in 1968 to promote policies and programs that foster preservation of Cape Cod’s natural resources. Our monitoring programs are designed to provide science-based information to inform outreach, policies, and actions to achieve these goals.

The new Pond Monitoring Program involves monitoring of water quality in 50 ponds at monthly intervals from April through October.



Responsibilities: The Project Manager’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  *   Coordinate and manage two fast-paced monitoring projects to provide deliverables according to quality assurance requirements, schedules, budgets, and plans;
  *   Supervise project staff and interns for the two projects;
     *   Pond Monitoring Program:
        *   Supervise two pond monitoring staff who will conduct monitoring and sampling of water for temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, water clarity, conductivity/salinity, and nutrients;
        *   Oversee logistics, mobilization, and demobilization;
        *   Identify and secure resources needed from partners (e.g., boats);
        *   Supervise subcontracts with a courier and a selected lab;
        *   Oversee data management and data analysis;
        *   Prepare reports, budgets, and plans;
        *   Coordinate with the Cape Cod Commission and other partners.
     *   Cyanobacteria Monitoring Program:
        *   Supervise staff and interns who conduct pond sampling, sample preparation, lab analysis, and reporting;
        *   Oversee data management, data analysis, and reporting;
        *   Oversee preparation of MOUs with partners, invoices, and budgets;
        *   Prepare internship postings as needed to fill vacancies;
  *   Seek and build efficiencies that take advantage of similarities between the two projects;
  *   Build and maintain partnerships with municipalities, agencies, organizations, and volunteers;
  *   Provide public outreach and education through presentations, newletters, emails, and other outlets.
  *   Assist with proposals as needed.

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., water resources, hydrology, limnology, natural resource management, environmental microbiology, etc.) and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of project management experience.

Required Experience and Skills:

  *   Management of water-related monitoring projects;
  *   Supervision of employees and interns;
  *   Field monitoring of water quality, cyanobacteria, or other water-related resources;
  *   Data management and data analysis using Microsoft Excel;
  *   Preparation of reports;
  *   Excellent communication skills (verbal, written);
  *   Computer skills and experience with Office 365, Microsoft Word, and Excel; and
  *   Ability to work in a timely manner to meet schedules.

The Project Manager will report to the Director of Science Programs and will work with the APCC Project Team (i.e., Executive Director, Director of Science Programs, and the Director of Outreach and Education). Work with other APCC staff may occasionally occur as directed.

This is a salaried full-time, year-round position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
