A Coastal Training Program Webinar

Do you want to gain confidence in talking about climate change issues? Join us to learn about strategic framing - a research-based approach to communication that engages audiences in thinking productively about how they can participate in creating or supporting climate change solutions.

Today discussion about climate change is all around us. Yet, the depth and complexity of the topic can sometimes make communicating about it challenging. Whether in a professional setting or at the kitchen table we could all benefit from learning expert tips on how to do this better. Strategic framing techniques help us avoid or navigate common pitfalls that arise when talking about this important issue. In this webinar attendees will be introduced to the elements of strategic framing such as tone, values, explanatory metaphors, and solutions. We will also address overcoming barriers to interpreting climate change issues.

Although focused on the topic of climate change, the general approach may be applied to any type of science communication. We’ll also touch on preliminary expert guidance on how to communicate about climate change during the COVID-19 crisis.

Target audience: Educators, scientists, resource managers, planners, local officials, federal and state agency staff, non-profits, and anyone else who may have a role in communicating about this topic to different audiences.
