[SEMCO] Native American Heritage Month Events

The Woods Hole Diversity Advisory Committee and the Falmouth Community invite you to join us in celebrating Native American Heritage Month this November. We are hosting a series of events to pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native American Nations, and to encourage active self-education and reflection on the history and human culture of the unceded territories we now call home.



First, on November 16th, we are hosting a virtual viewing of the film “We Still Live Here - Âs Nutayuneân'' followed by a panel discussion. This film will be available for streaming on Vimeo from November 14 - 17. Participants are encouraged to stream live on November 16th starting at 6:30pm. The panel discussion will follow at 7:30pm, featuring speakers from the Wampanoag Community and the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project (WLRP): Melissa Harding-Ferretti (Chair of the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe, WLRP President) and Jessie Little Doe Baird (MacArthur `Genius’ Award winning linguist, Mashpee Wampanoag, WLRP Board Member).



We are also hosting a virtual book discussion of Our Beloved Kin: a New History of King Philip's War by Lisa Brooks on November 22 at 7:00pm on Zoom. This book will be available to borrow from Falmouth and Woods Hole Libraries (hard copy and audio), and for purchase at Eight Cousins Books in Falmouth.



We hope to see you at these events as we celebrate Native American heritage and pause in thankful reflection for our diverse community and the countless contributions of Native peoples past and present.
