SATURDAY MORNING NATURE PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS
The Thornton Burgess Nature Program for adults explores a variety of
naturalist topics on the first Saturday of the month through December. Just
as Burgess's interests were as broad and diverse as the wildlife he
chronicled in his stories, so does this program explore a wide range of
natural history topics. Insects' Winter Preparations is the topic on
Saturday, October 5. From 10am to noon, join research entomologist Hannah
Nadel at Talbot's Point Conservation Area in East Sandwich to walk slowly
through mixed woodland to find insects and their galleries, galls and pupal
chambers in living and dead plants, leaf litter, soil and other feeding and
hiding places. Hand lens or binoculars (to view "backwards") are encouraged
for exploring this miniature world. Meet at the parking area off Old County
Road.
Lichens are the topic on Saturday, November 2 taking place from 10am to noon
at the Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich. Tom Walker, a Cape Cod
Naturalist with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries biology, shares
information about the life history of lichens, how to distinguish common
species from each other and how they fit into the larger ecosystem. First
past of the class is spent inside the nature center reviewing the basics of
lichen identification and biology before venturing out to explore the
various lichen species present on Green Briar grounds.
The fee for each program is $20, and advance registration is required online

SATURDAY MORNING YOGA FOR KIDS!
Children ages 5 to 7 are invited to start their Saturday morning right with
Miss Britt on a Yoga Adventure at the Green Briar Nature Center in East
Sandwich. Classes will meet from 8am to 9am on each Saturday morning
through October 26. The class is broken into three parts: Part #1- Meet at
the pond and warm up with breathing and yoga poses. Part #2-Adventure into
the woods for a singing hike with stops along the trail to do yoga poses,
using our bodies to pretend we are nature. Part #3-Relax back at the pond
for final yoga poses and closing breathing exercises. Kids will love this
body and mind nature adventure! The fee is $25 per class. Call
508-888-6870 to register.
