FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

An Evening of Radio Storytelling in Woods Hole

November 21, 2019, 7:00-9:30 pm

Atlantic Public Media presents a public listening event to celebrate the creation of new audio work by nine students at this fall’s Transom Story Workshop. It will be held from 7 – 9:30 pm on Thursday, November 21st, at the Community Hall, 68 Water Street, in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Admission is free. Seats fill quickly, so come early.

“It's possible there's never been a more energized group of students to come through the workshop, eager to tell Cape Cod stories,” says lead teacher Rob Rosenthal. “From African American literature on the Vineyard, to piano bar music in Provincetown, to the effort to keep Yiddish alive in Falmouth, the stories Transom students are working on are incredibly varied. I can't wait to hear what they make!”

The students arrived in Woods Hole in late September to learn the craft of audio storytelling. They traveled from Amsterdam, both coasts, the middle of the country, and England by way of Tennessee, and range in age from their late 20s to late 30s. Their stories are about local people and issues, and it’s likely that some of the subjects will be in the audience. A question and answer period will follow each piece.

Executive Director Jay Allison says, “When we gather at our listening and graduation event, we get to hear surprising, even wonderful things about where we live and our community … about us.”

The listening event will precede a brief graduation ceremony and the public is urged to join us in applauding Transom Story Workshop’s 17th graduating class.

Public radio producer Jay Allison founded Atlantic Public Media as a non-profit organization in 1993. APM founded WCAI, the Public Radio Exchange (PRX), Transom.org <http://transom.org/> (the Peabody Award-winning public media website), and produces The Moth Radio Hour (also a Peabody winner). APM also crafted the popular NPR series, This I Believe, and provides programming for WCAI, including the Sonic IDs, Creative Life and The Local Food Report.
