Camp Instructor Job Description
Botanical Center Summer Nature Camp


The Camp Instructor will teach and lead nature and environmental education activities for children aged 6-11. The camp site is in the urban Roger Williams Park in Providence, RI based out of the Botanical Center. This camp is offered through a partnership between the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and the city’s Partnership for Providence Parks.



Responsibilities:



  1.  Develop and lead natural history lessons, both outdoor and indoor activities, games, and art, craft and science projects.
  2.  Ensure campers’ health and safety.
  3.  Maintain clear communications with Audubon staff, Parks staff, parents and campers.
  4.  Attend staff trainings in June before the camp sessions begin.
  5.  Maintain the camp facilities to keep children healthy and to keep the area we share with the Botanical Center neat and tidy.

Camp Instructors will oversee any interns or volunteers that will assist during the camp weeks.

Qualifications:


  *   Camp Instructor must be 21 years or older.
  *   Camp Instructor should ideally have experience and background in environmental education or teaching science, and in working with children.

Other needed qualifications and skills:

  *   Instructor must be responsible and able to work independently.
  *   Instructor must be willing and able to work outdoors for the majority of the day.
  *   Instructor will be most successful in working with these unique campers from urban populations by cultivating a sense of humor andenthusiasm, and by demonstrating patience.
  *   Instructor must have current certification in Community CPR and First Aid or be willing to become certified.
  *   Criminal background checks are required for all summer camp staff.
