Overview:
Since 1967, Northeastern University’s Marine Science Center (MSC) has generated outstanding teaching and research in the marine sciences, and interacts with the public via our Outreach Program, which reaches ~10,000 people per year through various educational programs and events. The MSC and Girls Inc. of Lynn have developed the Beach Sisters program in order to pair the resources of an informal science education center with a community-based organization, to help pave the way for girls living in an environmental justice community to develop scientific inquiry and citizenship skills, and to learn about studies and careers in marine science. The Fellow will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the Beach Sisters program including mentoring six teen Peer Leaders and working with them to plan and deliver marine/environmental science after school programs to and participate in environmental service learning projects in the community.
