Are you a U.S. STEM scientist interested in obtaining coastal measurements during major storms?
Would you be interested in helping to develop an association for rapid pre-storm deployments by multi-disciplinary teams?
If so, we invite you to join our discussions to try to develop a framework for a Nearshore Extreme Event Reconnaissance effort (NEER), which would be similar to the NSF-sponsored Geotechnical Extreme Event Reconnaissance (GEER) Association (http://www.geerassociation.org <http://www.geerassociation.org/>), and the newly formed StEER, SSEER, and ISEEER efforts.
The goal of NEER (if funded) will be to organize and to provide travel support for interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers (including, but not limited to oceanographers, hydrogeologists, geomorphologists, geologists, ecologists, hydrologists, biogeochemists, meteorologists, coastal engineers, geo-engineering technologists, and structural engineers) to conduct pre- and post-event site characterization and to collect during-event observations of the nearshore system (where ocean and estuarine waves and surge interact with land processes).
Our initial focus would be on U.S. major coastal storm events. However, if successful, the Association may later be expanded to included tsunamis and other extreme coastal events, including those occurring overseas.
If you would be interested in working with us to try to develop a NEER Association, please complete the membership survey at

or send us the information requested below by replying to this email.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to your colleagues.
Sincerely,
Britt Raubenheimer and colleagues
