“Protect Your Water, Tap into Science”

Join Us for STEEP Science Day!

WHO: The STEEP Superfund research team (University of Rhode Island, Harvard
T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Silent Spring Institute) in partnership
with the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) and Sierra Club Cape
Cod Group

WHAT: STEEP Science Day! Members of the STEEP Superfund research center
will be back in Hyannis for a full-day community event focused on the
science of hazardous chemicals called PFASs and their occurrence in U.S.
drinking water supplies, including on Cape Cod. The program will include
project updates from the STEEP team, a film screening, and a tour of the
Hyannis Water System facility, among other activities. The annual event is
an opportunity for members of the Cape Cod community to connect with STEEP
scientists, learn about research on PFASs, ask questions, and voice their
concerns. See below for a full list of scheduled activities. This event is
free and open to the public. All are welcome!

WHEN: Thursday, June 7th, 2018, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: Barnstable Town Hall, 367 Main Street, Hyannis, MA

* ASL interpreters will be available

About STEEP: The Sources, Transport, Exposure and Effects of PFASs (STEEP)
Superfund Research Program (SRP) Center is a collaboration between the
University of Rhode Island, Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health,
Department of Environmental Health, and Silent Spring Institute. Led by
URI, the five-year project is addressing the emerging and expanding problem
of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in drinking water—how these
chemicals move through our environment, how we are exposed through our
drinking water, and how they affect our health. Local project partners
include the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and the Sierra Club Cape
Cod Group.

STEEP is funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
(NIEHS).
