*Calling all teachers, after school program directors and summer camp
directors: *
Ocean Protection Advocacy Kids, Inc. (OPAK) is offering marine science, art
and advocacy workshops for students ages 7-13 throughout Southeastern
Massachusetts. Our workshops are partially grant funded and cover the full
cost of supplies. Through our grant we have funding available for a few
small field trips and for filming of a short ocean documentary that your
class could be involved with (filming with be conducted by Animal Welfare
Media)! The best part: WE COME TO YOU!
All of workshops blend art and science through engaging STEAM curriculum
that gets kids to become curious ambassadors for the environment! Each
workshop has its own unique ocean theme, art project and science experiment
and can be offered in-school, after school or as a summer workshop. Program
length varies by teachers needs and availability.
*The workshops*: (Typical price per hour workshop is $150, based on a class
size of 25. However, we are flexible, so please do not let price deter you)
*Plankton and Plastics*
This workshop explores the microscopic marine food web while investigating
the impact that marine debris is having on our oceans. The workshop also
includes a plankton art project which introduces students to copepod
anatomy!
*Songs of the Sea*
This workshop highlights the diets, size and communication patterns of
whales found in New England. Following this brief lesson students will work
with our educators to write their own marine advocacy song!
*Marsh Critters*
Marshes are an extremely important resource for all coastal communities.
This workshop will teach students about what lives in marshes and the need
for coastal resiliency. As always, our lesson will be capped off with an
art project!
*The workshops can be offered as single lessons or multi-day programs. So,
the possibilities are endless! Grant funding is from Lush Cosmetics. *
