THE GLASS FLOWERS OF HARVARD
Henry T. Callan, the well-known lecturer on art and antiques, will present
"The Glass Flowers of Harvard" on Wednesday, October 18 at 2:00pm at the
Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich. He will tell the story of the
beautiful flowers created in glass by Leopold Blaschka and his son Rudolph
in Germany, working over a period of fifty years (1886-1936). This unique
collection of over 3,000 models would be used to teach botany at Harvard
University, explaining the mysteries of nature. The collection represents
more than 830 plant species. Mr. Callan's program includes colorful slides,
which show their breath-taking beauty. Admission to this special program is
$7 for members of the Thornton W. Burgess Society, $10 non-members. Green
Briar is located at 6 Discovery Hill Road, just off Route 6A in East
Sandwich. Call 508-888-6870 and let us know you plan to attend. Drop in
admission is also available at the door.
