lecturer on art and antiques, will present <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>“The
Glass Flowers of Harvard”</span></b> on Wednesday, <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>October 18</span></b> <b><span style='font-weight:
bold'>at 2:00pm</span></b> at the <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Green</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Briar</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Nature</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType> in <st1:place w:st="on">East
Sandwich</st1:place>. He will tell the story of the beautiful flowers created
in glass by Leopold Blaschka and his son Rudolph in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region
w:st="on">Germany</st1:country-region></st1:place>, working over a period of
fifty years (1886-1936). This unique collection of over 3,000 models would be
used to teach botany at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Harvard</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>, explaining
the mysteries of nature. The collection represents more than 830 plant
species. Mr. Callan’s program includes colorful slides, which show their
breath-taking beauty. Admission to this special program is $7 for members of
the Thornton W. Burgess Society, $10 non-members. Green Briar is located at <st1:Street
