Woods Hole Sea Grant is searching for an educator (formal title - Senior Administrative Assistant I/II) to join our team. JOB SUMMARY:
 
Reporting to the Woods Hole Sea Grant Director, the Sea Grant Educator coordinates the Institution’s Sea Grant education programs.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Organizes and conducts K-12 coastal and ocean literacy efforts to further the Sea Grant mission, to include professional development for teachers through training workshops, classroom visit/tours, and related environmental education outreach events
Generates discussions and decisions regarding the interaction, integration and planning of education and school-based outreach efforts with the goals and activities of other components of the program’s operations
Works with Sea Grants Extension staff, Communication and Outreach Specialist, and Director to formulate, plan and write Woods Hole Sea Grant Communications, Public Outreach & Education proposal as part of Sea Grant’s biennial omnibus proposal and review process, as required by the National Sea Grant College Program
Assists the Sea Grant Communications and Outreach Specialist with writing, production and distribution of Sea Grant communication material for a diverse audience via multiple outlets, to include news releases, newsletters, brochures, reports and feature articles
Maintains relations with other Sea Grant programs, especially education and outreach staff; represents Woods Hole Sea Grant at various local, regional and national events and meetings
Participates as education subject matter expertise in the program’s strategic planning efforts and assists in preparation for program reviews
Works with Woods Hole Sea Grant’s Marine Outreach Guidance Group and education subcommittee to develop and implement new programs, as well as to evaluate existing programs through surveys designed for stakeholder feedback
Contributes education related content for a variety of websites based on Sea Grant research and education and outreach efforts and explores uses of innovative technologies to be used within those sites
 
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as required including assistance with meeting/conference planning for the Woods Hole Sea Grant Program
DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in marine or environmental science, education, communications or related field, plus 3-5 years’ experience in marine science outreach and education preferred
Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and team skills required, along with a proven ability to digest, summarize and package scientific information in various forms for diverse audience groups. Word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint) experience is required
Computer familiarity (Macintosh) preferred; experience in social media a plus; familiarity with step curriculum development or Next Generation Science Standards a plus; program evaluation including survey design
 
*Position level will be determined based on education and experience
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Other physical requirements include occasional/prolonged standing/walking and repetitive motion using general office equipment and computers. Occupational requirements include hearing, talking, and working around/with others. Physical duties are subject to change.
