Climate Change, Penguins and Women’s Leadership
with Heidi Steltzer,Ph.D, Dyan deNapoli, & Betty Trummel

  BREWSTER, MA ­ The Cape Cod Museum of Natural 
History in Brewster presents a new Summer Series 
called Lunch & Learn. On Monday, July 31, 2017 at 
11:30am we are proud to present three women 
scientists who just returned from the inaugural 
Antarctic expedition called Homeward Bound.

Homeward Bound is a groundbreaking leadership, 
strategic and science initiative and outreach for 
women, set against the backdrop of Antarctica. 
The initiative aims to heighten the influence and 
impact of women with a science background in 
order to influence policy and decision making as 
it shapes our planet. The inaugural 2016 voyage 
took place from December 2-21 2016 and was the 
largest ever female expedition to Antarctica.

Presenting will be 3 participants from the inaugural Homeward Bound expedition:

Heidi Steltzer, Ph.D. Heidi is an environmental 
scientist, explorer, and a science communicator. 
She is an

Professor at Fort Lewis College, Colorado and 
studies how environmental changes affect mountain 
watersheds and Arctic systems.

and featured in the

Dyan deNapoli is a penguin expert, TED speaker, 
and author of the award-winning book,

Great Penguin Rescue. She lectures 
internationally about penguins, and is a 
sought-out expert on radio and TV, including 
<http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01b9c8z>appearances 
on BBC and CNN. Dyan returns to Antarctica next 
year as a 
<https://www.expeditions.com/why-us/expedition-team/staff-bio/dyan-denapoli/>lecturer 
for Lindblad/National Geographic. Dyan will speak 
about how penguins are being impacted by climate change.

Betty Trummel retired in 2015 from a 35-year 
career in elementary teaching, and 10 years as an 
adjunct professor at Northern Illinois 
University. She’s taught at over 40 National 
Wildlife Federation Conservation Summits since 
1983 and loves to reach out to learners of all 
ages to teach about the natural world. Betty has 
had 3 previous expeditions to Antarctica and is a 
member of the Executive Committee for

educators and scientists as a global education community.
