PBCB's Blind & Vision- Impaired Sailing Program needs a few more volunteers!
PBCB provides free sailing lessons for Blind & Vision Impaired (BVI) students. We
successfully piloted this program last year and are looking forward to its return
in a couple short weeks. But we need a few more folks willing to act as guides and
instructors for these sailors.
Each BVI student requires one sighted guide to guide him/her to and from the parking
area and to assist with getting on and off the boat. We also need one sailing instructor
for each boat. The guide and instructor may be the same person.
If you're an accomplished sailor, we can train you to be an BVI instructor. Not
all that accomplished (yet)? We can train you to be a BVI guide. We need both!
What do we ask of you? Just that you be willing to commit to serving as a guide
or instructor each Tuesday evenings through the months of July and August. Each
session lasts about 2.5 hours.
This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community that has given so
much to all of us, make new friends, and enjoy the spectacular beauty of evening
sailing on Pleasant Bay.
We'll be providing a TRAINING SESSION for all volunteers on MONDAY JUNE 26. We'll
meet at 5:00 pm at the PBCB parking lot.
