The 2017 Cape Cod Natural History Conference will be held on Saturday, March 11 from 8:30 AM-3 PM at Cape Cod Community College's Tilden Arts Center.
For more than 20 years, Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary has organized this full-day conference featuring presenters from environmental organizations across Cape Cod speaking on a diversity of natural history topics. The conference continues to be an engaging, exciting, and fun way to learn about local research projects, conservation efforts, and local environmental organizations.
Among the presenters will be Jacob McCumber of the Massachusetts Army National Guard on "Bats of Camp Edwards: Three Years of Intensive Monitoring"; and Paul Goldstein of the USDA National Museum of Natural History on "Offshore Entomology: The Dukes County Native Bee Project. Other topics include:
The Successful Capture, Rehabilitation, and Release of a Manatee from Chilly Cape Cod Waters
The Sounds that Fish Make
Why Marine Animals Eat Plastics
The Largest Freshwater Wetland Restoration in the Northeast
This year's conference also includes two student posters-one from Nauset Regional High School environmental science students on an oyster study in Wellfleet Harbor. And a group of middle school students from Shrewsbury are contributing a poster on their inventions to reduce injury to sea turtles from fishing line.
A full listing of topics and schedules can be viewed upon registration: www.massaudubon.org/wellfleet-ccnhc<http://www.massaudubon.org/wellfleet-ccnhc>.
