AMERICAN FOLK ART LECTURE SERIES AT GREEN BRIAR

 

The Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich will host a six part lecture
series, An Introduction to American Folk Art with Art Historian Elizabeth
Friend, on Tuesdays April 4 to May 9 from 10:00am to 11:30am. Lectures will
cover the important art historical period in America commonly called Folk
Art.  Each lecture will highlight significant areas within this large genre.
Topics will include: "What Is Folk Art?"; "Portraits;"  "Landscapes and
Scenes of Daily Living;" "Tavern and Shop Signs;" "Marine Arts, Weather
Vanes and Figureheads;" and "Contemporary Folk Art." Each talk will be
profusely illustrated with color slides and examples from the presenter's
collection.  There will be time for a question and answer period.  Fee is
$35 for the entire series for members of the Thornton W. Burgess Society,
$45 for non-members.  Fee per individual lecture is $7 members, $9
